Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on southern Beirut early Wednesday, shortly after announcing a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, brokered by the United States.

These strikes represent the most intense wave of attacks since the conflict began, targeting civilian areas and prompting authorities to issue a record number of evacuation warnings before the ceasefire was set to take effect at 4:00 AM Beirut time.

The ceasefire agreement is based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the last Lebanon war in 2006 but has not been fully implemented.
