A US-brokered ceasefire agreement to end Israel’s aggression against Lebanon went into effect at 4am local time today.
There were no immediate reports of violations of the agreement.
In a joint statement after the ceasefire was announced, the US and France pledged to lead international efforts to build the capacity of the Lebanese army and support the Lebanese economy.
US President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday night that Lebanon and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire that will take effect on Wednesday morning, and thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for his efforts to reach the deal.
Lebanon has been under Israeli aggression for more than a year, which has intensified since the end of September last year, killing and injuring thousands of civilians and displacing more than a million people.
