Istanbul hosts 10th OIC Halal Expo, showcasing global halal industry

The World Halal Summit kicked off yesterday, Wednesday, in the Turkish city of Istanbul.The tenth edition of the World Halal Summit is being held under the slogan “Successful Tenth Year in Halal” in cooperation with the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and the Turkish Halal Accreditation Institution.

 

In a speech at the opening of the summit, Emre Atte, vice-president of the World Halal Summit, said the summit was hosting more than 500 participants from 100 countries, according to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.

 

He pointed out that the size of the halal market was about $1 trillion about 10 years ago and has now exceeded $8 trillion, and he expects the size of the halal market to reach about $12 trillion within 5 years.

 

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries, Saad bin Othman Al-Qasabi, noted that the summit was held with the aim of improving the sustainable economy and living standards, expressing his hope that halal products will become more prevalent in industry and trade on a global scale.
