Mahmoud Abbas Nominates Rawhi Fattouh as Successor in Case of Health Issues

Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority, has nominated Rawhi Fattouh to take over if he cannot continue in his post due to poor health.

Rawhi Fattouh is the former speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council and the current speaker of the Palestinian National Council, the legislative body of the PLO, as well as a member of Fatah’s Central Committee.

If Abbas is unable to continue as president, Fattouh will assume the presidency of the PA for 90 days until elections can be held, a role he previously took on in 2004 following Yasser Arafat’s death.
