A source close to the Élysée told French media that French President Emmanuel Macron will not announce in his anticipated speech on Thursday evening the name of the person he will appoint to form the new government, following the resignation of Michel Barnier after the National Assembly withdrew confidence from his government.
Macron is scheduled to deliver an address to the nation at 8 p.m., after the National Assembly decided to withdraw confidence from Barnier’s government.
Several names have been discussed as potential successors, including François Bayrou, leader of the Democratic Movement Party, Minister of Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu, and former Socialist Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.
