Lawmakers from South Korea’s ruling People Power Party withdrew from the National Assembly on Saturday to prevent a vote on impeaching President Yoon Suk-yeol by disrupting the required quorum.

The law requires 200 votes out of 300 members to impeach the president.

At the same time, thousands of protesters gathered outside the parliament demanding his resignation, while only one member of the ruling party decided to remain in the chamber.
