Ethiopia Faces Nationwide Power Outage Leaving Cities in Darkness

Ethiopia’s power grid experienced a sudden malfunction on Sunday, causing a nationwide power outage. After several hours, the Energy Authority announced that electricity had been restored to half of the country, including most areas of the capital, Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia, with a population of 120 million, is working to enhance its energy sector capabilities through major projects such as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which began generating electricity in 2022.
The country is also aiming to increase its electricity exports to neighboring countries like Kenya and Sudan.
