Netanyahu Announces Seizure of the Buffer Zone with Syria

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today, Sunday, the collapse of the “Disengagement Agreement” of 1974 with Syria following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad.

He ordered the Israeli army to seize the buffer zone where UN forces are stationed, noting that Syrian soldiers have “abandoned their positions.”

Netanyahu described this day as “historic” in the Middle East, considering that Assad’s fall represents the collapse of the “axis of evil” led by Iran.
