German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated yesterday, Sunday, in a brief statement that his country is ready to contribute to a political solution that would lead to peace in Syria, describing the end of Bashar al-Assad’s rule as a “good news,” in his words.

Scholz confirmed that Assad bears responsibility for the repression of his people and the displacement of millions of Syrians, stressing the need to restore law and order in Syria and halt foreign intervention, while reaffirming the importance of Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

He also clarified that Germany will contribute to efforts to resolve the conflict in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
