Russia announced on Sunday that it had requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday to discuss the situation in Syria after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad following a sudden and rapid offensive by opposition factions.
In connection with the recent events in Syria, the repercussions of which on that country and the entire region have not yet been assessed, Russia has requested that emergency closed consultations be held in the UN Security Council,’ Russia’s deputy representative to the UN said via Telegram, indicating that the meeting would be held on Monday.
