International Federation: 2024 a Deadly Year for Journalists with 104 Deaths

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) announced in a report published today, Tuesday, that 104 journalists were killed in 2024, more than half of them in the Gaza Strip, making this year particularly deadly for media workers.
According to the IFJ’s Secretary General, Anthony Bellanger, this year is considered one of the worst for journalists. Among the victims, 55 Palestinian journalists were killed, bringing the total number of Palestinian journalists killed since the start of the war in October 2023 to 138.
The report also highlighted that China remains the largest jailer of journalists in the world, with 135 journalists behind bars.
