German President Steinmeier visits Nigeria, South Africa, Lesotho

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier today  begins a four-day tour of Africa that will take him to Nigeria, South Africa and Lesotho.

According to the German President’s Office, ‘Steinmeier’ Steinmeier will begin his tour today with a meeting in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, with the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Omar Touray, followed by talks with the Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the expansion of bilateral political and economic relations.

The German President’s Office described Nigeria and South Africa as two of the most important players on the African continent, adding that they are two of the continent’s strongest and most dynamic economies. Steinmeier is accompanied by a business delegation.

The German president will conclude his trip with a one-day visit to Lesotho, which has not been visited by a German president since independence in 1966.
