The EU Imposes New Sanctions on Russia Targeting “Shadow” Tankers

The European Union imposed new sanctions on Russia today, Wednesday. The sanctions target the fleet of aging tankers known as “shadow” vessels, which Moscow uses to circumvent Western restrictions on oil trade.

These ships are old and uninsured, raising concerns about the potential environmental disaster in European waters.
Additionally, several Chinese companies accused of supporting the production of Russian drones have been blacklisted.

These sanctions were agreed upon during a meeting of ambassadors from the 27 EU member states and represent the 15th package of sanctions since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
