South Korea’s opposition leader Lee Jae-myung has called on ruling party lawmakers to vote in favour of a bill to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol following his controversial attempt to impose martial law.
In a speech to the National Assembly, Lee, leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, insisted that impeaching the president was the ‘quickest and safest way to end the chaos’ and urged lawmakers to vote according to their constitutional principles.
This comes after the Democratic Party submitted a new motion to impeach the president on Thursday, after a previous attempt failed when most lawmakers from the ruling People’s Power Party boycotted the vote.
