South Korea’s opposition-led parliament impeached President Yun Suk-yol on Saturday after voting to bar him from holding office following his attempt to impose martial law in the country.
Prime Minister-designate Yoon Han Duk-soo will become acting president, according to Reuters.
A total of 204 lawmakers voted in favour of the memorandum, while 85 lawmakers voted against. Three lawmakers abstained, while eight votes were invalid, according to the result announced by the speaker.
