4.9 magnitude earthquake hits Algeria

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale struck the province of Chlef, west of the Algerian capital, early on Monday morning, according to the Algerian Centre for Research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics.

The earthquake struck at 01:09 local time and the epicentre was 3 kilometres north of Zabouja in Chlef on the Mediterranean coast, the centre said. Algeria’s civil protection agency said there were no immediate reports of material or human losses in the various municipalities of the province.
