Bangladesh’s chief adviser to the caretaker government, Mohammad Yunus, said today that it may be possible to hold the next national election by the end of 2025 or the first half of 2026.
The election could be held between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026,’ he said in a televised address to the nation to mark the country’s Victory Day.
Yunus said he had repeatedly appealed to everyone to hold the elections after all the necessary major reforms were completed.
Yunus urged the Election Commission, all social institutions and political parties to adopt various creative programmes to achieve this goal.
He suggested establishing a tradition of ensuring 100 per cent first-time voter participation in all polling stations in elections, including local government elections.
