Scholz Loses Confidence of the German Parliament; Early Elections Next February

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz lost a no-confidence vote in parliament on Monday, paving the way for fresh national elections on February 23.

According to the Bundestag president, 394 lawmakers voted against granting confidence, 207 supported it, and 116 abstained.

Scholz is expected to request President Frank-Walter Steinmeier dissolve parliament.

Polls indicate that Germany could be heading for a right-wing shift in power following the elections.
