EU Action Against TikTok for Digital Services Act Violations

The European Commission has initiated formal proceedings against TikTok for potential violations of the Digital Services Act, following evidence of Russian interference in the Romanian elections.

The Commission suspects that TikTok did not sufficiently mitigate risks to election integrity, particularly after the unexpected victory of independent nationalist candidate Călin Georgescu in the first round of the presidential elections on November 24.

The elections were annulled after intelligence agencies provided evidence of Russian interference via TikTok.
