The Philippines has ratified a new defense pact with Japan, allowing military forces to deploy on each other’s territory amid rising regional tensions with China.

The Philippine Senate announced that the agreement would enhance “interoperability” between Japanese and Philippine forces, strengthening their joint defense capabilities in light of increasing security challenges.
