Cairo: G8 summit endorses expansion, announces Indonesia will host 2025 edition

The Group of Eight (G8) summit on Thursday endorsed the expansion of its membership and announced that Indonesia will host the summit in 2025.

The announcement was made in the final communique at the end of the summit in Cairo, according to Egypt’s official news agency.

The G8 comprises Turkey, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia and Bangladesh.

In the Cairo Declaration, the leaders and delegations of the countries attending the summit expressed their support for the expansion of the Organisation of Developing Countries for Economic Cooperation (OECD).

The Cairo Declaration welcomed Azerbaijan’s full membership of the organisation.

The summit was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Masoud Bozeshkian, who arrived in Egypt for the first visit by an Iranian president to Cairo in 11 years.
