The Sri Lankan navy has rescued more than 100 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar who were stranded on a fishing boat in the Indian Ocean, and they were safely returned to the port of Trincomalee in eastern Sri Lanka. The group includes 102 individuals, among them 25 children.

The Rohingya face severe persecution in Myanmar, prompting thousands of them to risk their lives on long sea journeys towards Malaysia or Indonesia.
