Italy Fines “ChatGPT” €15 Million for Data Protection Violations

Italy’s data protection authority has fined OpenAI €15 million following an investigation into the company’s use of personal data to train its chatbot, “ChatGPT.”

The authority found that OpenAI used personal data without “sufficient legal basis,” violating principles of transparency and information obligations towards users.

Additionally, OpenAI failed to provide “adequate age verification systems” to prevent users under the age of 13 from accessing inappropriate content generated by artificial intelligence.
