Jordanian Foreign Minister holds talks with Al-Sharaa in Damascus

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi is “now” holding “extensive” talks in Damascus with the head of the new government in Syria, Ahmad al-Sharaa.

This is part of an official visit of unknown duration to the Syrian capital, which Safadi began on Monday, according to two posts by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry on its account on the ‘X’ platform.

This is the first visit by a senior Jordanian official to Syria since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad on 8 December.

Jordan shares a 375-kilometre land border with Syria. Amman says it has hosted more than 1.3 million Syrian refugees since the Syrian conflict erupted in 2011.
