Russia: 15-Year Sentence for American Citizen Gene Spector on Espionage Charges

A Russian court has sentenced American citizen Gene Spector to 15 years in prison on espionage charges, according to news agencies.

The Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported that Spector served his sentence in a “strict regime penal facility” and has been fined 14 million rubles, approximately 134,000 euros. The trial has been conducted behind closed doors, with limited details regarding the charges.

In September 2022, he was sentenced to three and a half years for corruption, and in 2023, it was announced that he was charged with espionage, to which he pleaded guilty.
