Pope Francis called on Wednesday for the facilitation of humanitarian aid to Sudan, where famine is widespread due to the ongoing war that has lasted for 20 months.

In his Christmas message, the Pope stated, “May the Son of the Almighty support the efforts of the international community to enhance the delivery of humanitarian aid to the civilian population in Sudan, and initiate new negotiations for a ceasefire” between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
