Australian authorities on Thursday called on residents of dozens of rural communities to evacuate immediately as a massive wildfire swept through the Grampians National Park in southeast Australia, located 240 kilometers from Melbourne.
According to Victoria’s emergency services, over 600 firefighters are battling the blaze, which has been fueled by hot and humid conditions for more than a week. The fire has burned through 55,000 hectares, equivalent to one-third of the national park’s area, without causing injuries or property damage so far.
Nevertheless, authorities emphasized the urgent need for residents in affected areas to evacuate for their safety.
