The Mauritanian government has introduced amendments to the political party law, including new conditions for the establishment of political parties.
These changes were met with opposition from some parties, who viewed them as a restriction on political freedom in the country.
In a press conference held on Thursday, MP Biram Dah Abeid stated that these amendments have closed the door to the establishment of any new political party.
The amendments followed a series of meetings between the Minister of the Interior and both ruling and opposition political parties, resulting in an unannounced agreement.
