Milanović Competes in Croatian Presidential Elections Amid Tense Atmosphere

Croatian President Zoran Milanović is competing in this week’s presidential election against several opponents, including a government-backed center-right candidate.

Milanović is considered one of the most popular politicians in Croatia and is known for his strong criticism of Western military support for Ukraine.

He is the frontrunner in Sunday’s election, but achieving an absolute majority seems unlikely, which may necessitate a runoff on January 12.

Although the presidency in Croatia is primarily a ceremonial position, it holds political power and includes the role of commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

It is worth noting that Croatia has approximately 1.6 million eligible voters out of a total population of 3.8 million citizens.
