Finnish authorities have detained a ship carrying Russian oil over suspicions that it disrupted the “Estlink 2” electrical cable connecting Finland to Estonia, prompting Finland to request NATO support.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb emphasized the need to strengthen the alliance’s presence, while NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed his support for the investigations.
In this context, NATO announced its intention to bolster its military presence in the Baltic Sea, while Estonia has launched a maritime operation to protect the electrical lines.
