The death toll from the crash of a passenger plane operated by Jeju Air has risen to 174 after it attempted an emergency landing at Mosan International Airport in Muan, southwest of Seoul.
Authorities stated that the accident was caused by a landing gear malfunction. The plane failed to land on its first attempt and crashed during the second.
According to estimates, 179 of the 181 people on board were killed. A fire department official described the chances of survival as slim, citing the complete destruction of the plane and the difficulty in identifying the victims.
