Security officials reported that at least eight people were killed and 13 others were injured in clashes along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border that lasted until late Saturday.

This followed Pakistani airstrikes on camps believed to be linked to the banned Pakistani Taliban in the Paktika province of Afghanistan.

The clashes began after an attempted infiltration by Afghan militants across the border, which was thwarted by Pakistani forces, leading to intense firefights between both sides.

As tensions escalated, the Pakistani airstrikes resulted in the deaths of dozens of Afghan civilians, including children, which the United Nations described as a violation of international law.
