Mahsena Al-Muheitawi: The First Woman to Hold the Position of Governor of Sweida in Syria

The new administration in Syria appointed Mahsena Al-Muheitawi as the governor of Sweida in the south of the country, in what is considered a continuation of her nomination by the popular movement, according to Ayham Al-Shoufi, a civil activist from the region.
Al-Muheitawi, who was the director of the Real Estate Bank and head of the Audit and Inspection Department in Sweida, is one of the first women to participate in the peaceful movement in the governorate. Despite the harassment she faced from the previous regime, she continued her activism.
Al-Muheitawi was born in the village of Labina in 1970, belongs to the Druze sect, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in economics from Damascus University.
