Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday that Ukraine is taking steps to resume diplomatic relations with Syria in the near future, after a long period of severed ties due to the Crimea crisis.

Zelensky added that the country is preparing to reopen communication channels with Damascus and strengthen cooperation in international organizations, in an effort to reactivate bilateral relations between the two countries amidst recent regional and international developments.
