The French foreign minister arrived in Damascus on Friday morning, to be followed by his German counterpart, the French foreign ministry said, in the first such visit by a Western country to Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad.

Jean-Noël Barro and his German counterpart Annalina Berbock will meet with the head of the new Syrian administration, Ahmad al-Sharaa, according to AFP.
