A fire at a vegetable market in northern China’s Hebei province has killed eight people and injured 15 others, China Central Television (CCTV) reported today (Saturday). CCTV added that authorities were investigating the cause of the fire, which broke out in Zhangjiakou city and was extinguished after an hour.
Videos posted by other media outlets on China’s Weibo platform showed huge plumes of black smoke and large flames above the market in the city’s Xiaoxi district, according to Reuters.
The market where the fire broke out is the Liguang Vegetable Market, which opened in 2011 and sells goods ranging from fruits and seafood to electronics, according to business information website Chichacha.
