Austrian President Tasks Herbert Kickl with Forming New Coalition Government

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen has asked far-right Freedom Party leader Herbert Kickl to attempt to form the new coalition government following their meeting in Vienna on Monday.

If successful, this could signal the establishment of Austria’s first far-right-led government since World War II.

This comes after Kickl’s party won the Austrian parliamentary elections in September, securing 28.8% of the votes.
