Nigeria’s military has launched a military offensive against a new rebel group reportedly affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIL).

This move comes as part of the government’s efforts to combat rising violence in the northeast.

A military spokesperson confirmed that operations will continue until security threats in the region are eliminated.
