The Malian army announced that its forces repelled a terrorist attack in the northwestern region of Nioro, eliminating 30 militants and seizing a large amount of weapons and ammunition.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Malian army said: “The General Staff of the Armed Forces informs the public that the Malian Armed Forces strongly repelled a terrorist attack in the Nioro region on January 6, 2024.”
“The terrorists infiltrated the city in large numbers with internal collusion and attacked some sensitive points in the city, but the swift action of the armed forces and the response to the attack resulted in the recovery of 30 bodies of terrorists and 22 machine guns and an anti-tank rocket launcher in addition to a large amount of ammunition,” the statement added.
“One soldier was killed and a military vehicle was burned during the operation,” the statement said, adding that the situation was “under control and the search for terrorists is ongoing.”
