Poland has expressed its willingness to supply electricity to neighboring Ukraine, amid reports that Slovakia may cut off power to Kiev.
“Warsaw is ready to supply electricity to Kiev,” Polish Climate and Environment Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska said in statements, adding that “Poland will be able to increase electricity sales to Ukraine if requested.”
She explained that her country’s operating company is ready to do so, but the issue depends on whether Ukraine wants or needs to ask for its services.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said last week that his party would consider cutting off electricity supplies to Ukraine, reducing aid to refugees, and demanding an extension of the gas transit agreement or compensation for the losses he estimates his country has suffered as a result of the disruption of Russian gas supplies through Ukraine.
