Iran records a rise in executions to 901 people in 2024

Reports indicate that Iran witnessed a significant increase in executions in 2024, with 901 people being executed, including 31 women.
The charges against them ranged from drug-related offenses, political opposition, and participation in the 2022 protests that erupted after the death of Mahsa Amini.
Additionally, many women were executed for killing their husbands in self-defense.
In this context, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, expressed his deep concern over this rising trend, stressing that the number of executions in 2024 is the highest since 2015.
