Nigerian authorities reported that 21 government-supporting soldiers were killed in an ambush set by bandits in Katsina State in the northwest of the country.

The Katsina police spokesperson explained that the convoy was returning from offering condolences to the family of a deceased colleague when it came under gunfire in the village of Bawuri in the Safana area.
