Biden to deliver farewell address to Americans next week

The White House has announced that US President Joe Biden will deliver his farewell address to the nation from his office on Wednesday, five days before Donald Trump is sworn in as the country’s new president.

The speech, scheduled for 8pm local time, will be the president’s last major opportunity to address Americans and the world before he leaves office at midday on 20 January.

It will be followed by another speech at the State Department on Monday that will focus on his foreign policy legacy.

White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said Biden’s speech would reflect more than 50 years of public service.

Republican Donald Trump will serve as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, and is preparing to return to the White House for a second term after winning the last election over Democratic rival Kamala Harris.
