Dozens of people have been killed in an air strike by Myanmar’s ruling junta in the western state of Rakhine.
The United Nations said in a statement that junta forces bombed the village of Kyauk Nyi Maw two days ago, killing more than 40 people and destroying some 500 homes.
The UN called on all parties to abide by international humanitarian law, while a coalition of ‘Myanmar activists’ urged international governments to cut off the junta’s revenue and impose sanctions on companies that supply it with kerosene.
It is worth noting that Myanmar has been in a state of constant unrest since the military coup that overthrew the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021, which led to the outbreak of popular protests that evolved into a large-scale armed insurgency.
