These statements came after Ukraine launched new attacks in Kursk to maintain control over territories acquired during an incursion in August, marking the first occupation of Russian territory since World War II.

The Russian counterattacks have weakened Ukrainian forces, resulting in thousands of casualties and the recovery of over 40% of the territories that were under Ukrainian control.
