The European Union has announced a new €148 million humanitarian aid package for Ukraine.
The European Commission said in a statement on Monday that some 12.7 million people in Ukraine are in need of “urgent assistance” and that the new aid package aims to meet these needs.
Of the total €148 million aid package, €140 million has been earmarked for humanitarian operations in Ukraine and €8 million for Moldova.
With this new package, the European Commission has now allocated more than €1.1 billion in humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the start of the war.
Since 24 February, Russia has launched a military offensive in neighbouring Ukraine, demanding that Kiev renounce NATO membership.
