Libya: Kufra issues 140,000 health certificates for Sudanese refugees in 2024

Ismail Al-Ayda, head of Kufra’s emergency room, reported that over 140,000 health certificates were issued for Sudanese refugees in 2024.
He noted that the number of refugees exceeded local expectations, while international organizations have only provided 10% of the required support.
Al-Ayda highlighted worsening health conditions, particularly in winter, despite a 40-bed health center. He added that over 6,000 refugees suffer from chronic diseases, complicating the situation further. The Kufra municipal council has urged the UN and international organizations to meet refugees’ basic needs.
Unofficial estimates indicate that over a million Sudanese refugees are in Libya, facing difficult conditions in cities like Benghazi, Sebha, and Kufra.
