President Joseph Aoun has tasked Judge Nawaf Salam with forming the new government after securing the support of 84 deputies during parliamentary consultations.
Salam’s selection followed a strong competition with Najib Mikati, as he garnered the highest number of votes. This development marks a significant shift in the Lebanese political landscape amid escalating economic and political crises.
Nawaf Salam was born on December 15, 1953, into a prominent political family and currently serves as President of the International Court of Justice.
Salam has an impressive academic background, holding a PhD in Political Science from Sciences Po in Paris and a Master’s in Law from Harvard.
