Children in Syria continue to face a constant threat from unexploded ordnance that endangers their lives.
In a press conference via video call from Damascus to the United Nations office in Geneva, UNICEF Communications Director, Ricardo Perez, warned about the deadly impact of these explosives on children.
He explained that 116 children were killed or injured in December 2024 alone, while over 250,000 children were displaced due to the escalating conflict.
Perez also pointed out that there are approximately 324,000 unexploded ordnances scattered across the country, calling for intensified mine removal efforts and increased awareness of their dangers to ensure the safety of children.
