Impeachment trial of South Korean President Yoon begins

South Korea’s Constitutional Court on Tuesday began an impeachment hearing against President Yun Suk-yol over his failed attempt to impose martial law, but quickly adjourned its first session in his absence.

The court’s eight judges will decide on two key issues: A conviction on either charge could lead to impeachment, as six of the eight judges must vote in favour of impeachment for Yoon to be removed from office.
